Morning Marauders!

(Della) Our sweet cherry tree bears lovely fruit, but the local birds of all varieties have it well marked on their seasonal tour map. Each year they strip the tree earlier and earlier. This morning’s raucous visit by a flock of cockatoos is probably the earliest I have witnessed, being only 2 weeks or so after the spring blossom.

You can see, in the photo, the size of the tiny green fruit just beginning to grow. That, alas, is as far as it will get this year! I love sweet cherries, but then I also love all of our avian visitors…I did try netting years ago, but that only works if you are the sort of gardener who keeps trees rigidly pruned. So I have resigned myself to appreciating the cherry tree for its beautiful spring blossom and huge white cocky adornments in place of delectable fruit!
